End-stage renal disease (ESRD), or “kidney failure”, is the final stage of chronic kidney disease where the kidneys can no longer function, requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant for the patient to survive. The number of recognized ESRD patients in Kenya has been increasing over the last years. This has created a challenge to the healthcare system which has recently seen the exit or reorganization of multiple suppliers of Dialysis equipment.
As a result of this, hospitals have been facing unreliable supplies of dialysis consumables and spare parts for their dialysis machines causing unnecessary down-times of the equipment. This has negatively impacted patient care and exposed healthcare institutions to financial constraints.
B. Braun Kenya has taken on this challenge. As the only original manufacturer of dialysis machines and consumables invested in Kenya, we have launched our complete portfolio to the market offering a reliable and economically viable solution to all renal healthcare institutions in the country.
Sustainable Supplies: With our Head Office and our Warehouse along Mombasa Road we will guarantee a sustainable supply of consumables and spare parts. HD or HDF: B. Braun Kenya has professional and affordable solution on stock. Our Service Center has started installing equipment in public and private institutions and will provide user trainings to ensure a stable dialysis process.
Economic Solutions: B. Braun Kenya offers attractive placement solutions and affordable consumable prices. We are aware of the reimbursement framework and the necessity of our partners to provide renal care without making losses.
Innovation: For advanced renal care treatments, we offer innovations like our new XevontaTM Dialyzer that combines high performing clearance spectrum with high retention of albumin.

B. Braun Group, German Government and the County Governments of Elgeyo Marakwet and Kericho has launched a public-private partnership that aims to reduce maternal and newborn deaths in the respective counties. The initiative named develoPPP program aims to address critical gaps in maternal and newborn healthcare delivery in Kenya, where thousands of women and infants still lose their lives each year due to preventable complications during childbirth.
The collaboration will strengthen health systems in 31 health facilities in the two counties by
Enhanced quality of maternal and newborn services
Increased access and utilization of MNH services
Strengthen the county referral system
Reduce preventable maternal and newborn deaths
With an impact reaching nearly 100,000 pregnant women and newborns, this collaboration is a bold move to ensure that no mother dies while giving life, and no baby should be lost to preventable causes.
During the successful launch Kerstin Heimel-Ventura, Director International Development Cooperation at B. Braun, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable healthcare solutions, noting, “Data shows that investments in stronger health systems and quality of care can reduce maternal and newborn deaths and still births by half,” she said. Adding “As a company, we are proud to contribute to improving the health of women and babies in Elgeyo Marakwet and Kericho counties, supporting an effort that directly aligns with SDG 3”
Alena Kern, the Deputy Head of Development Cooperation at the German Embassy, praised the initiative. “With a total investment of €1.26 million, co-financed by B. Braun and the German Government through the develoPPP program, this project is more than just a development initiative – it is a promise,” Kern said.
